5 workers die after fall from elevator at E China construction site

JINAN, April 3 -- Five workers died after they fell from an

elevator at a construction site in Laiwu City of east China's Shandong Province,

a company spokesman said on Friday.

Three workers died at the site of the accident, which occurred at about 4

p.m. Thursday.

Two others were badly injured and died later in hospital, said the

spokesman of the Laiwu Steel Group, Ltd.

The five worked for Shandong Xiantong Installation Company, a contracting

firm of Shandong Laiwu Iron and Steel Group Corporation.

Industrial safety officials with Laiwu city government are investigating

the cause of the accident, an official said.
