SHEFFIELD, England, April 28 -- Snooker great Stephen Hendry scored a maximum 147 break in the seventh frame of his World Championship quarterfinal against Shaun Murphy at the Crucible Theatre here on Tuesday. Seven-time champion Hendry's clearance of 15 reds and 15 blacks plus all the colors, lifted him to a 5-2 lead over Murphy in their best of 25-frame contest. The Scot's maximum break was his second at the tournament after his 1995 effort against Jimmy White. Hendry, bidding for his first world title since 1999, will pocket 157,000 pounds (229,193 dollars) for this break alone provided no one else in this tournament manages a maximum clearance, in which case the prize money for the highest break of the championship will be shared. |
