ISLAMABAD, June 28 -- Six security men were killed and several others injured Sunday when a security forces' convoy was ambushed by militants in Pakistan's North Waziristan tribal agency, local TV channels reported. Armed men attacked the motorcade of security personnel, killing six security personnel in Grilmai area of North Waziristan, according to DAWN NEWS TV channel. Taliban have claimed responsibility of the attack. Meanwhile, security forces pounded on the hideouts of extremists and killed at least 16 people in South Waziristan Tribal Agency, Geo News TV channel reported Sunday. Security forces initiated a major offensive against militants in North West Frontier Province late April. The ongoing operation has entered its final phase and over 1,600 militants have been killed. The security forces are currently engaged in an operation in Waziristan tribal areas. |
