HONG KONG, Aug. 2 -- An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale hit Irian Jaya Region, Indonesia, at 5:01 p.m. Sunday (0901 GMT), according to a bulletin released by the Hong Kong Observatory. The epicenter was initially determined to be 0.5 degrees south latitude and 132.9 degrees east longitude, about 360 kilometers west-northwest of Biak, Indonesia. |
