TOKYO, Oct. 27 -- A Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force (MSDF) destroyer collided late Tuesday with a South Korean container ship in the Kammon Straits in Fukuoka Prefecture, local media reported. A crew member on MSDF destroyer Kurama was injured in the accident, which occurred at around 8 p.m. (1100 GMT) and caused fires on both vessels, the Kyodo News reported, citing the defense ministry. No one was injured on the commercial vessel and the fires were soon got under control. A liaison office has been set up at the prime minister's office and investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident. |
