GUANGZHOU, Nov. 11 -- Sun Yawei of China claimed the women's 100 meters hurdles gold at the 18th Asian athletics championships here on Wednesday. Sun, 22, established an early lead to clock 13.19 seconds, beating the silver medallist, Terada Asuka of Japan, by only 0.1 second. Dedeh Erawati of Indonesia took the bronze with 13.32. "It is my first international competition," said the 22-year-old. "So I am not familiar with my rivals. What I can do is to try my best." "I will attend the East Asia Games in December, and I hope I can compete in the Asian Games next year," she added. The Asia record of the event is 12.44 set in 1995. |
