Police officer detained for raping allegation in central China

HEFEI, Dec. 15 -- A police officer was detained Saturday on suspicion of raping a woman, a spokesman with the Anhui Provincial Administration of Public Security said Tuesday.

The suspect Li Wenbao, 35, was a vice political instructor of a police substation in Fengyang County of Chuzhou City.

A woman surnamed Du called the municipal public security bureau early Saturday morning, claiming that she had been raped by Li earlier the day.

A preliminary investigation showed that Du drove Li home after he drank alcohol at a banquet with friends Friday evening. However, the woman was sexually offended by Li.

Police seized Li Saturday and sent him to the detention house of Mingguang City for further investigation.
