HONG KONG, Feb. 27 -- The launching ceremony of the 2009 Hong Kong Games will be held on Saturday, announced the Leisure and Cultural Services Department of Hong Kong on Friday. Organized biennially by the Sports Commission and co-ordinated by the Community Sports Committee, the second Hong Kong Games will be held from May 9 to 31 this year. With the Hong Kong's 18 District Councils as the participating units, the second Hong Kong Games will cover six sports, including athletics, badminton, basketball, table tennis, swimming and tennis. "The objectives of the HKG are to provide districts with more opportunities for sports participation, exchanges and co-operation, and to encourage members of the public to actively participate in sports," said the department in a statement released on Friday. |
